Ravensthorpe Public Library
Our Public Library saw some big changes in 2011. Renovations and the purchase of shelving, couches, tub chairs and a coffee machine have enabled us to expand our Adult, Young Adult and Junior areas and provide a friendly, relaxed ambiance for our clientele.
Over the past six months we have been diligently working on a number of goals, most importantly, to promote reading to the children of our community and outlying communities. We are achieving this with the introduction of a Library Reward Card. Children are issued with a personal Library Card and earn stars for every book they or their parents read to them. Once their Library Reward Card is completed they receive a certificate of achievement and have their photo displayed on our 'Little Library Legends' display board. A computer station has been purchased for the Junior section of the Library and a wider range of craft materials have been made available for the children to use on the craft activity table. As a result our young visitors have beenexploring, creating and learning. It is encouraging to see the youth of our community visit our Library and interact positively with what the Library has to offer them.
Another important goal we are working towards achieving is to better cater for our clientele.By improving the procedure we use to gather daily library statistics we will have a greater understanding of our readers wants and needs.
An initiative we propose to work towards in 2012 is to cater to our housebound residents and patients in our local Ravensthorpe hospital. We will provide a library delivery service and in doing so will adhere to our non-discrimination policy
We receive our book Exchange from the State Library of Western Australia (SLWA) on a monthly basis. If you cannot find what you are looking for in our library, we can order books audio books and DVDs in at your request.
The Ravensthorpe Public Library is open from 9am - 5pm, Monday to Friday.
Membership is free for The Shire of Ravensthorpe rate payers, and a $50 bond is required for non-rate payers.
